York County is in south central Pennsylvania and was created on August 19, 1749 from part of Lancaster County.

The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) was between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the 13 colonies which became the newly formed United States.

     
 

Captain John Wampler was born about 1745. He married Dorothea Hiller.

He was a Lieutenant in 6th battalion during Revolutionary War and was discharged on April 5, 1778.

John's will was dated November 22, 1821.
